Dear fellow St. Joseph parishioner:
We are writing to share some great news about St. Joseph School and its Best In Class initiative, and to ask for your help as we take the next step on this journey.
For more than 70 years, St. Joseph School has been one of the finest in the entire Archdiocese of New York. It is an essential component of our parish, producing young adults grounded in the Catholic faith, who go on to some of the finest high schools in the area, and excellent colleges around the country.
Our pastor, Fr. Peter McGeory, is a proud alumnus (Class of 1963), and a shining example of the type of person this school sends out into the world, year after year: men and women for others, devoted to love of God and neighbor.
We are thrilled to report that, despite the unprecedented challenges posed by COVID-19, Phase 1 of the Best In Class initiative has been a huge success. Our new state-of-the-art Technology, Reading and Art Center (TRAC) was opened this past fall (as detailed in Catholic New York), along with our modernized Science Lab, and our updated Kindergarten classroom.
Best of all, we debuted our brand-new Pre-K program, welcoming more than two dozen 3- and 4-year-olds to our school for the first time, who hopefully will be with us for many years to come.
Our Pre-K enrollment for September 2021 has already nearly doubled, to 50 children! And overall our enrollment has skyrocketed in the past two years – up over, a whopping, 35% so far. The future of our school appears very bright indeed.
But the work of setting up our school for that future is far from complete. Phase 2 of Best In Class will involve modernizing the curriculum. Post-COVID, we hope to take full advantage of our newly updated facilities, and our faculty -- under the leadership of principal Mary Ellen Sanchez -- are energized and ready to start implementing these changes. But this does not come without significant costs, on top of the renovations already completed and the greatly increased enrollment.
At the beginning of this project, Fr. Peter showed great faith in the school by providing half of the projected $1 million budget up front -- $500,000 directly from the parish. Now we’re trying to raise the other $500,000, to make sure we can keep improving and remain “Best In Class” for many years to come.
That’s why we’re reaching out to you, someone who has been so kind to our parish in the past. We’ve begun an exciting new chapter in the history of St. Joseph School, and in this Year of St. Joseph declared by Pope Francis, we hope you’ll consider making a pledge towards its future.
You can find more information on our parish website, and make a donation there directly if you’d like. Or you can utilize the attached donor page if you’d prefer. Thanks again so much for your consideration and generosity.
Sincerely,
Joe Spillane Paul Scariano Fr. Peter McGeory ‘63
